LETTER FROM ELVIA AGUILAR ’17 EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear Islanders,

For nearly four years I have met many of you while I was on the road to our alumni chapter areas and at Homecoming. We have connected over Linkedin or through the Islander Mentor Program. Perhaps it was by playing Islander Loteria over Zoom or me handing you the Islander ring at Ring Ceremony? But still, there are many more of you out there that I would like to meet.

I come to the Executive Director position during a time when our Island University is growing, and we are in the spotlight at the local, state and national level. The pride and excitement around our championship sports teams is contagious and there are many more victories on the horizon.

Our Islander Forever family grows with each commencement, and I am excited to create opportunities for all of us to stay connected to our alma mater. I believe that while most of us experienced the beauty of our campus, the amazing and dedicated faculty and staff and the cats at Cat Alley, there are so many other things that help make this place special. The Islander Pep Band, Islander Ambassadors, service organizations, theatre and music productions, the list goes on and on.

My goal is to work with our National Islander Alumni Association board and campus partners to create programming and opportunities to help you find your place as an Islander alumnus. Whether it’s by mentoring a student, signing postcards, speaking to a class, or volunteering at a campus event, there is a seat for you at the table. Help keep us informed on what you are up to by submitting Class Notes and follow us on social media to so that you can keep up with what we are up to. It is an honor to serve as your Executive Director and I look forward to building more Islander traditions with you.
